About Us

When did we start?

Breadcrumbs was founded in 2009 by Stewart and Christoph. As outdoor enthusiasts, we like to check our GPS tracks to see where we have been. We were keen to share our skiing, hiking and mountain biking experiences with our friends, but neither of us were satisfied with the current GPS track management offerings. With our unique combination of skills we decided to take things into our own hands and Breadcrumbs was born.

Who are we?

Stewart has a strong background in general management, consultancy and spatial technologies. He has previously worked in a consulting environment developing large-scale spatial applications. Stewart has also worked as a manager for a top GIS Software vendor, developing cutting edge web applications and working on product development. He has developed a unique skill set through his exceptional understanding of the design and implementation of spatial software stacks, web mapping API’s and middle-end technologies. Stewart holds a Masters Degree in Geographical Information Systems from Leeds University, UK.

Christoph has a broad range of expertise in computing and business. Throughout his career he has worked at various companies, including financial institutions, publishers and social media startups, gaining experience in a wide range of technologies. These include high performance transactional systems, cloud computing, scaling, web services and many more. Christoph has extensive experience in the design, delivery and management of advanced technical solutions. Currently, Christoph’s attention is focused primarily on business development and marketing, in particular social media marketing, an area in which he has extensive expertise. Christoph holds a Masters Degree in IT Management from Vienna University of Technology, Austria, and a Masters Degree in Telecommunication and Media from St. Pölten University of Applied Science, Austria.

What do we do?

Breadcrumbs is a cutting edge web 2.0 application which enables users to manage their adventures. The application enables users to quickly and easily bring together their GPS data, associated multimedia and share it with their friends. We have placed a huge emphasis on providing full 3D support through Google Earth, so that users can get a true feel for the terrain that they experienced. We also provide a simple process for users to geotag photos and videos.

Breadcrumbs rivals any desktop GPS management application but has all the benefits of the web.

Track management is a critical component of Breadcrumbs. Users are able to organize, edit and share their adventures.

Breadcrumbs is free to use and can be used to track any outdoor activity from hiking to sightseeing. We already have an active user-base with trips from all over the world and look forward to seeing more trips. Our aim is to map the world with your Breadcrumbs.

When developing Breadcrumbs we have focused on allowing our users to manage their GPS tracks instead of just building a track sharing website. As a web-based product we give users the same quality of experience that they have come to expect from a desktop-based application, but with the additional benefit of being able to share their tracks quickly and easily with their friends and family.
